At RBS our mission is to make you successful in the Online Backup Business. We believe so strongly in our mission that we just paid about $10 for you to click our ad to see this page.
The price you pay for Vembu software RECURS EVERY YEAR, and is FAR HIGHER THAN RBS. Read their fine print!
Vembu licenses software with "MCALS," whatever those are. It's a complicated and expensive way to license software. You have to pay (and pay and pay...) piecemeal, constantly, as your customers use different features of the software.
The amount you pay is not completely in your control. If you run out of MCALs your software will stop running. If you don't pay again next year, your software stops running and you are out of business.
We compare prices several times a year, so we know. Vembu costs more than twice as much as RBS, even at the 50% discount they will offer you (for the first year only) - and you have to pay their high price OVER and OVER again, FOREVER.
At RBS our software costs a one-time fee for all features. You can use it forever, and it will not stop working.
It will install the Apache Web Server on all your clients' servers.
The Vembu software installs the Apache Web Server on all end users' servers. The end users don't usually know it is there, and even many Service Providers don't know it is there.
This can cause an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS security breach. If you are an Online Backup Service Provider and you install an Apache Web Server on your customers' networks without notifying them of the potential security risks, you might be held legally liable for any damages.
The Apache Web Server is NOT produced by Vembu, and it is not updated or maintained by them. YOU will be responsible for monitoring updates to Apache and applying patches to all your clients. Apache patches come out about once a week.
Here's a recent update on this topic: Some Vembu partners have asked Vembu to change the name of the Apache service to hide the fact that they are installing Apache on their customers' computers! They know it's wrong, and they're trying to cover it up!

RBS Client software is 100% secure and contains NO OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE. Every line of code was written in-house, and is supported and updated regularly by Remote Backup Systems.
NO Data Integrity Check during Backup
In October 2010 a Vembu spokesman admitted, "Currently there is no integrity check that is done during backup." So, the Vembu software cannot guarantee that files are properly backed up.
RBS software does multiple redundant integrity checks before, during, and after file transfer. Backup files are encapsulated in virus-proof packets and digitally signed to provide a 100% guaranteed safe, exact copy of the original.
Cannot do a local disk restore
Suppose you have a big customer with 100GB of data stored with you, and he needs it all back NOW QUICK. Vembu has no way easy to do it. So, your customer might be out of business for DAYS while you try to get his data back. (There is a complicated kludge workaround that involves writing scripts and exporting data and it takes a long time and requires contact with Vembu tech support.)
RBS software has a very simple, quick, and secure Local Restore mode that can have your customer back in business in just the time it takes to copy from a USB drive.
Vembu competes directly with YOU
That's right. Vembu offers online backup services to the same prospects you do. And they can undercut your prices because they don't have to pay for their expensive software year after year after year. Why would you buy software from someone who is competing unfairly with you? This unfair competition is angering many of Vembu's partners.
RBS sells ONLY to Service Providers. We do not (and will never) compete with our own customers by offering Online Backup Services to the public.
Rebranding is only available with large purchases.
At the time of this writing, you could only rebrand the software if you bought more than 2000 "MCALs." Sometimes they run a special sale that lets you rebrand it at 1000 "MCALs." That's still too expensive!
Why would you want to distribute software with someone else's name all over it? Especially if that someone else is a competitor who might take your customers? ALL RBS software is rebrandable, no matter how much (or little) you spend.
What if a customer forgets his encryption key?
With Vembu, the customer is completely out of luck. There is no way you can restore his data. This leaves you open to legal action and seriously dissatisfied customers. AFTER ALL, YOU HAVE THE DATA THAT THEY NEED TO STAY IN BUSINESS, AND YOU WON'T GIVE IT BACK! Lawyers will call you, customers will cancel services, and they will complain about you bitterly and publically.
RBS has been in this business long enough to know that about 2% of end users forget their encryption keys when they need a recovery. We are the only vendor providing a very secure Encryption Key Escrow feature that can restore data even when customers forget their keys. You and your customers have complete control over this feature. You can turn it on and off according to your customers' needs.
SO MANY OTHER DIFFERENCES
RBS is simply a better product and a better company. We founded the Online Backup industry in 1987. We have far more experience in the business, and we have many more successful Service Providers because of it. Our software is better, more robust, more brandable, easier to work with, and less expensive.
