Article Number: 100166
Software: RBACKUP Version 8.3.20
On 6 May 2002 RBS started assigning new Service Providers to the new Server Locator.
Order shipped after 6 May 2002 are already set up on the new Locator and do not need to
be switched.
The new Server Locator is on a much faster Server and has advanced features that make it
MUCH more responsive to changes in your IP address and Passive Mode issues. The old Server
Locator will be phased out over the next six months.
HOW TO SWITCH TO THE NEW LOCATOR
You know you're using the old Locator if your Host Name contains the following:
dyn.rbsnet.net
Host names associated with the new Locator contain the following:
ddns.rbsnet.net
The rest of the Host Name remains the same. Just replace "dyn." with "ddns." in your
Client Database Utility so all subsequent installers are made with the your new Host Name.
First send an email to the Sales department
asking to be switched to the new Locator. When you contact Sales send them your Serial
Number, the name your software was purchased under, and your EMail address in the body of
the message.
Wait until you receive a reply back from Sales telling you that your new Locator account
has been activated.
Then download the following file to your RBS Server. Extract it to your desktop using a
ZIP utility like WinZip. Then double-click it to install the New Locator codes, then
reboot your RBS Server.
Download setddns.zip
CAUTION: As soon as you do this your Server will stop updating the old Locator and
start updating the new one. Any clients you have that are still looking for you at your
old Locator Host Name may not be able to find you.
Your old clients will be able to reach your at your OLD LOCATOR host name or your NEW
LOCATOR host name UNTIL YOUR SERVER'S IP ADDRESS CHANGES. When your Server's IP address
changes only the new Locator will respond.
Before switching to the new Server Locator please make sure you can switch your clients
within a reasonable amount of time. Use the Administrator's Override feature (or tell your
clients how to do it) to change the Host Name in the Remote Backup Client software by
replacing "dyn." with "ddns."
